Baza. Heart of the High Plateau

A city with a old Moorish and Castilian flavor

Baza (declared Historic and Artistic Complex) make fall in love through its history, it culture and its monumentality, but also for being framed in a natural place, the mountain range with its same name, with surprising contrasts and great landscape and biological richness.

Traveler has the chance to discover here an enclave located in the high plateau of Granada, land of great contrasts that combines in a same environment two leafy natural parks and the main desert of Europe, where we can go in a little time from the Mediterranean forest to the extreme steppe.

Surrounded by this environment, the antiquity of the Basti called by the Iberian and Romans is verified by the numerous archeological discoveries found in the zone. Among them, we must highlight the famous Lady of Baza, Iberian sculpture of the IV century BC, and considered by the experts as one of the most important traces of this people, found in the Peninsula. Together to this we find the spectacular urban design of the city and its peculiar architecture of the Cave-houses, which actually have become an important way of development of the rural tourism.

Baza offers a great variety of tourist possibilities that go from quiet promenades through the historic quarter of the city with its monuments and old quarters, passing by its Municipal Museum, to the possibility of practicing all type of sports, as trekking, hang-gliding or mountain bike in its natural environment.

The Natural Park of the Sierra de Baza

It is a steep massif, with abundant ravines and escarpments that break the monotony of the high plateau.
